The Orphanage

The Orphanage is a VFX studio that was founded 10 years ago by Stu Maschwitz, Jonathan Rothbart, and Scott Stewart.

They worked on a ton of movies, most recently "The Spirit" and "Ironman."

The employees of the Orphanage are called Orphans, and I think it's a fitting title. A bunch of unrelated people come together to create one cohesive thing, spending untold amounts of time with one another, bonding while working, fighting, playing, drinking, and crying.

The Orphanage closed this week for an indefinite hiatus, and I mourn the loss. Yes, they were a competing company, but I know a few Orphans, and I know how heart-breaking it is to disband after so many hours together.

Good luck, Orphans and Orphanage-founders! I hope the suspension lasts only a short while and you come back soon, raring to go.
