Congratulations, Katharine Kim!
I've been meaning to post about this since it happened late last month (1/23, I believe), but life got in the way.
CJ Entertainment is South Korea's largest entertainment company. They produce films, distribute foreign films (most notably DreamWorks and Paramount movies, with whom they have an exclusive deal, due to CJ Entertainment's $300 million investment back when DreamWorks was but a twinkle in Jeffrey Katzenberg's eye), own multiplexes, and even dabble in Internet and T.V. work.
With the biggest company in a flourishing business (one of South Korea's biggest exports), I hardly expected such an unorthodox appointment in their upper ranks. Katharine Kim, hired in 2005 to head up distribution for American films as well as American co-productions ("August Rush" among them), has been promoted to CEO of CJ Entertainment.
Her predecessor was made CEO of CJ Entertainment's cable T.V. company, not fired or embroiled in a scandal.
How amazing and rare is it that CEO's are re-shuffled without muss or fuss?
How much more exponentially amazing is it that a woman was made the head of a giant company with hundreds of millions of dollars at stake??
Congratulations to Ms. Kim- I hope that her tenure as CEO proves to be fruitful (obviously after the worst of this recession is over) and she proves us women in the film industry right- we can do our jobs. We can do our jobs well.

Great post. Good luck to her.
Yes! I'm excited to see what changes she makes during her tenure.
Absolutely amazing news!
I worked with Kim when she was a young TV producer here in NYC back in 1991;
I'd love to get in touch with her and congratulate her if anyone has any leads.

Hi RCA, I'm sorry, I have no contact information or anything for Katharine Kim.
You might want to try a general inquiry at CJ Entertainment, perhaps? http://www.cjent.co.kr/
Sorry I couldn't be of more help, hope you find her!
Thanx Jeanny!
