Question

I have a question for the (four) people that read this blog, particularly if you are not from L.A.:

What do you want to do if/when you're in L.A.?

Why do I ask? Because I'm crazy?

Yes.

Also, I've been thinking about living in other cities/states/countries lately. I daydream about that Seoul apartment so high up bugs can't survive (it's true!) ... that perfectly sunny loft right on Sydney harbor ... that shabby-chic Notting Hill flat next door to a second-hand bookshop ... that cramped studio in Manhattan, where a single lunge would take me from front door to kitchen ...

I shook myself off, let the dreams fall away, and realized that I don't appreciate this city. Don't get me wrong, I love L.A. Really.

Most of the time.

But I take it for granted, I don't go to out-of-the-way places (Hollywood now counts as out-of-the-way, it's dirty and more crowded than other areas of L.A.), and I stick with where I'm comfortable (Marina del Rey, Koreatown, Culver City, perhaps a venture into Century City or Beverly Hills every now and again).

I no longer care enough about this city to explore it. I go to the same bars, the same restaurants, the same stores, the same malls (although how can anyone beat the Beverly Center for sheer variety? Or beat Century City for a lazy day of shopping, eating, and watching movies?), the same manicure place, the same facial place, etc. etc. etc.

So. That leads back to my question...

What do you want to do in L.A.?

i've only been to LAX. i would not want to visit LA. not one ounce of my being is curious about seeing LA. i don't even want to see hollywood or spot movie stars on sidewalks. i feel like i've been exposed to all those things in movies and tv shows, and to me, the city basically looks like an enormous slab of concrete. sorry, i'm not helpful. um...magic mountain? i'd go to six flags magic mountain.

you should move to new york city.

L.A. is really over-exposed because of movies and TV, but very few of them get it right.

Magic Mountain is fun, but way out in the boondocks, past the Valley (I am not a fan of the Valley).

Funny, people from the east coast think I'm also an east coaster, even though I'm not. I'm trying to find a job that will take me elsewhere, just haven't quite figured it out yet!

No places you want to see? Restaurants to eat at? Bars to drink at?

Just don't say the beach. L.A. beaches are gross (Orange County beaches are good times).

Ummmm this doesn't help, but I have no desire to see or go to LA. Sorry.

*sigh*

Won't someone shallower and more prone to giving into the dubious charms of L.A. chime in??

You guys are making me want to leave even more! The opposite of what I was going for!

Sorry Jeanny... If I were to head to SoCal, it would be to San Diego. LA people are so bizarre (the ones I've met), I wouldn't want to be in a place with so many of them all at the same time.

I think having lived in Korea, I'd want to see Koreatown, should I ever find myself stuck in L.A. for some reason.

I have an idea, though. Why don't you write an entry convincing us non-believers to come to L.A.?

Thanks, Diana- I will ponder on what would get you L.A. haters to want to come here!

San Diego's nice, except my patience only extends to about four surfers, then I'm all surfer'ed out.

Koreatown is always fun! (Uh ... except for the crap drivers!)
