Weather in L.A.

Having grown up in Cerritos (in Los Angeles county), I am very accustomed to the typical temperate climate that people think of. Yes, I grew up surrounded by palm trees, with 90-degree summers and 60-degree "winters."

I admit that I am spoiled- I went to Korea in 1994 and I almost died of humidity overload. I'm not used to being hot and sticky. I'm used to being hot, going in the shade, and immediately feeling cooler. Korea? Not so much.

The weather in L.A. is at its most erratic in the beginning of the year, when it can't decide if it's "winter" or spring. I will freely put this in writing: L.A. only has two seasons, spring and summer. We don't do autumn, we don't do winter.

It seems like the fluctuating weather has been much worse this year than in previous years (or maybe I'm just getting older and less able to adapt to shifts in temperature) and it's throwing me for a loop.

The one good thing about weather: clouds!

Hmm, looks suspiciously like there might be raindrops in those clouds.

Heading west on the 91 (I think) in the morning, trying to stay ahead of the clouds, failing miserably.

I took these photos in February sometime, between 8:00 and 9:15 while I was on my way to work. This is the view from the exit that takes me from the 91 to the 105.

Beautiful clouds. Too bad they want to dump water all over me!

I think this is Venice Blvd. in Venice. Starting to rain, big fat drops.

I got to work around 9:15 and stayed inside for hours. We tend to block off windows in VFX, because sunlight changes the way that our work looks. We can't be looking at a screen that has sunlight glancing off of it! It's a sort of isolated world I work in.

A few hours later, I decided to brave the elements to go to the post office.

The rain is gone, leaving serene, puffy clouds. I love these types of clouds!

While I was running my errand, the clouds burned off and it became an almost unbearably bright day.

Poor palm trees getting abused by the wind!

L.A. is definitely at its most beautiful, in terms of nature, just after the rain. I forget how blue the sky can be until the smog has been washed out (right into the Pacific) and the clouds vanish.

This photo was from a different day, but I loved this cloud and had to take its picture while driving on the 91 freeway. I actually like that the cloud seemed to be caught on the electric wires- it's very representative of L.A.

It rained two days this week, and the rain reminded me of the photos I had taken.

I've been working long hours lately and my tired brain can't think of anything else to post about. Pictures make my blogging life so much easier!

Sadly, no vacations for me until at least June!

I will take a nice long vacation then, though.
